A variety of schemes, encouraging the use of things like renewable energy products, may be required in order to improve the country''s sustainability, an expert suggests.

According to Confused.com''s head of utilities Gareth Kloet, further support is required to help people focus more on issues such as energy efficiency.

He commented: ''The common objective of wanting to reduce waste or generate energy in a more sustainable way remains as the ultimate aim. We should therefore be doing all we can to support this.''

When it comes to the initiatives that are already being developed to help homeowners go green, the expert has noted that people may see fewer financial benefits if they already own a property which is fairly energy efficient.

A variety of proposals relating to energy efficiency were recently outlined by the government, through the launch of its Warm Homes, Greener Homes Strategy earlier in the month.
