If the UK is to meet its carbon cutting goals in the future, technologies relating to renewable energy and nuclear power will need to be adopted, according to one expert.

Meanwhile, Jeff Chapman, the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Association''s chief executive, also believes that CCS could play a key role in helping the environment.

He noted: ''We need renewables, we need nuclear power, we need better efficiency as well as CCS.

''You cannot deal with climate change without CCS because we are hooked on fossil fuels.''

Mr Chapman went on to point out the ''cost-effective'' benefits that CCS can offer when it comes to addressing the issue of climate change.

The expert additionally highlighted that some governments in Europe appear to be taking green issues into account when trying to improve the state of their economies.

Meanwhile, ministers in the UK have recently confirmed plans for a feed-in tariff renewable energy scheme, which will apply from the start of April.
