A number of proposed measures concerning marine renewable energy have been included in a new action plan published by ministers this week.
Among the measures outlined in the Marine Energy Action Plan, the government has suggested that, to deal with planning issues relating to marine power, a strategic coordination body could be created in the future.
It believes that as many as 15 million of the country''s domestic properties could potentially be powered by energy derived from water sources.
The government''s energy minister Lord Hunt has also noted the low carbon benefits offered by this form of power.
''Harnessing the power of our seas will help us reduce our carbon emissions, provide clean, green, secure and reliable energy, create jobs and provide export opportunities,'' he commented.
Earlier this month, the government also confirmed that new guidelines concerning renewable energy are to be made available to the country''s various regional assemblies.
